Philip Poppe - Managing Director

Philip has been in financial markets for more than 20 years. He started his career with the Electricity Corporation in and prior to his move to Forex Consultants (as the company was known back then), Philip was heading up money market operations. Philip has worked with companies in every sector of the NZ economy to manage all forms of treasury risk over the years. He has undertaken numerous roles in an advisory capacity related to global business expansion, mergers and acquisitions, strategic reviews, treasury policy development and the setting up of Treasury operations. In his role as an External Advisor Philip has been appointed to the Treasury Committees of a number of leading New Zealand corporates, agribusinesses, SME’s, finance companies, SOE's, and local authorities. Philip is the Managing Director of the company and also heads up the Advisory Services division.

Philip has a BA in maths and statistics, and Business Studies Diplomas in management and finance. He is a member of the Institute of Finance Professionals in New Zealand and is a Certified Treasury Professional (CTP). He is also a member of the Institute of Directors. For relaxing Philip enjoys playing golf and squash.

Malcolm Davidson - Auckland Manager

After schooling on the North Shore of Auckland, Malcolm graduated from University of Waikato with BMS (Hons) in 1992. Following varsity he joined Caltex in Wellington as a corporate planning analyst and then ANZ as a treasury dealer. Malcolm spent the next four years offshore, working two years in London for a couple of leading investment banks followed by a two year travel sabbatical. He returned to Auckland in 2000 to join UBS Warburg as an institutional equities research analyst covering the retail, food & beverage, tourism, and primary industry sectors. In 2003, following his passion for wine he joined Delegat Group in international business development & planning. It was here that Malcolm gained first hand exposure to the commercial reality of export markets for the popular Oyster Bay wine label. He then spent a brief period in a boutique asset management business before joining the Forex team in March 2007.

Malcolm heads up our Auckland office and brings to Forex a broad skill base and extensive experience from both the financial markets environment and the commercial world. Malcolm is married with two young boys and a baby daughter, and enjoys sport and wine, preferably in that order.

Simon Denton - Auckland

Simon is a Londoner with over 20 years experience in the financial markets, beginning his career on the fixed income desk at U.B.S as a Corporate Bond trader. In 1991 he moved over to the service side of the industry, going on to work for some of the largest brokerage houses in the financial markets, including ICAP and Cantor Fitzgerald. Having conducted business across most of Europe and North America Simon has broad international experience. His globe trotting culminated in his migration to New Zealand in 2000. Soon after Simon joined HiFX and went on to become manager of the New Zealand corporate desk. He brings a broad knowledge and understanding of international business across a wide variety of New Zealand industries. A solid understanding of fundamental and technical analysis enables Simon to assist his diverse client base with the challenge of managing foreign exchange exposures.

Simon lives on Auckland's North Shore with his partner and three children. He enjoys spending time at the beach with his kids and is a mad keen fisherman. Simon's other passion is cooking and he has grand dreams of one day selling chips'n'gravy from his very own van.

Pat Gilligan - Treasury Manager

After completing a BBS in Finance & Economics at Massey University, Pat spent two years with Coopers & Lybrand in Hawke’s Bay before moving to a treasury role with major North Island meat processor and exporter Lowe Walker. Pat was appointed to Treasurer and enjoyed three successful years in the role before leaving for a stint in London and derivative reporting roles with two international investment banks. He returned to New Zealand in 1999 and joined the Forex team in 2000. Pat is responsible for the Transactions Services part of the business, which has experienced significant growth over the past few years. Forex Limited provides a full range of transactional services to clients including spot delivery, forward exchange contracts and options. Pat also manages a portfolio of advisory clients spread across a wide range of sectors.

Pat enjoys the financial markets' environment and brings a diverse range of skills from reporting and analytical ability to treasury risk management experience gained within the primary industry. Pat is married with two young sons and enjoys keeping fit and maintaining his small yet powerful physique.

Simon Greig

Simon began his career in the financial markets as an interbank foreign exchange broker in early 1987 in the heady pre-crash days of monstrously wide spreads and long lunches. Simon spent the next 11 years working for major currency brokers in both Wellington and Sydney. He headed to the UK in 1998 and took a two year break from financial markets, enjoying a variety of commercial roles due mainly to his vague immigration status. Simon returned to the local market in 2001 and joined Forex in 2002. Simon manages a wide variety of clients, including a growing number of private investors that wish to have a strategic exposure to foreign currency markets.

Simon is married with two sons and a baby daughter. Simon is a native Wellingtonian, well hardened to jibes about both the weather and the Hurricanes.

David Lynch

After finishing University in 2000 David started his career in Dublin with Hemisphere Management, a leading Offshore Hedge Fund Administrator. In 2001 he moved to London where he spent four years with Cayenne Asset Management, a boutique Hedge Fund Management Company. At Cayenne he worked in variety of roles, initially overseeing the operational issues of the Funds managed there before moving into am analysis and a front office dealing role.

In 2005 he relocated to Wellington with his partner and joined the Forex team. He is enjoying his time in New Zealand and gets plenty of opportunity to partake in his favourite pastime, golf. He loves visiting different parts of the country and playing many of New Zealand top golf courses. David brings a varied range of skills gathered from his experience in the Investment Management and Securities Industry. DL particularly enjoys Wellington's world renowned cafe culture.

Matthew McNatty

Matthew has over five years of banking experience behind him, where he worked for both ANZ and National Bank Managed Funds. After graduating from Victoria University in 1999 with a BCA in Economics and Finance Matthew travelled through Asia teaching English. On his return he began his career at National Bank, most recently with Direct Investments, specialising in Unit Trusts, Superannuation, and other money market products. Matthew joined Forex in April 2005.

Matthew is a dealer and client advisor. He works with Forex’s clients to help manage their foreign currency and interest rate risk. Born and bred in Upper Hutt Matthew is a keen cricketer, football supporter and also enjoys a spot of amateur photography.

Phil Simms

Phil is a Forex Limited dealer and advisor in foreign exchange and derivatives. Phil has over 25 years experience around the globe in financial and commodity markets as an institutional broker. His expertise covers European Electricity Futures, foreign exchange and latterly oil markets, broking for two of the worlds largest broking houses. Phil's advice is based on a combination of market fundamentals and technical analysis, which helps maximise trading and hedging opportunities to his clients who come from all sectors of the economy.

Phil is a family man, who when not playing taxi driver to his children enjoys scuba diving and a spot of hunting. Phil is currently advancing towards his scuba diving instructors license.
